Vocabulary: Personality

Warm-up:

Tell 3 adjectives in 5 seconds to:

• Give compliments on somebody

• Describe the clothes a person wears

• Your type of boyfriend/ girlfriend

• Your type of husband/ wife

• Your type of close friends

Interesing: /ˈɪntrɪstɪŋ/ or ˈint(ə)rəstiNG

Ex: He is an interesting guy.

Boring: /ˈbɔː.rɪŋ/

Ex: She is really boring when talking about her cat all the time.

Intelligent: /ɪnˈtelɪʤənt/

Ex: An intelligent person learns very quick.

Humorous: /ˈhjuː.mə.rəs/

Ex: He is really humorous so he can make others happy.

Kind: /kaɪnd/

Ex:

It's kind of you.

You are so kind.

Unkind: /ʌnˈkaɪnd/

Ex: It's so unkind of you to not let him come in.

Talkative: /ˈtɔː.kə.tɪv/

Ex: The children sometimes make parents tired because they are talkative.

Quiet: /ˈkwaɪ.ət/

Ex: He is quiet so he likes reading more than meeting people.

Friendly: /ˈfrendli/

Ex: Linh is friendly so she has many friends.

Unfriendly: /ʌnˈfrendli/

Ex: The thing I don't like about him is that he is unfriendly.

Funny: /ˈfʌni/

Ex: He's so funny. He makes people laugh a lot.

Serious: /ˈsɪərɪəs/

Ex: He looks so serious in the meeting.


Grammar: Adverbs of degree

- An adverb of degree is used to discuss the degree or intensity of an adjective, an action, or another adverb.

- Adverbs of degree are usually placed: before the adjective or adverb they are modifying:

Exercise:

A. Pick out the adverbs of degree in the following sentences: 

1. He is very kind to his horse.

2. The newspapers gives a fairly accurate account of the matter.

3. I do not want to see too many visitors today because I am extremely busy.

4. You get a wondefully fine view from here.

5. He draws remarkably well.

6. Yes, he is thoroughly straightforward.

7. These mangoes are almost ripe.

8. I am rather busy.

Speaking: Talk about your best friend

• Name? Age?

• How is she/ he? (personality)

• How did you get to know each other?

• What do you have in common?

• What do you often do together?

Ex:

• His name is Filips, and he is one year older than me. Well, he is extremely interesting with his jokes, but sometimes he is quite serious about his work as well.

• I firstly met him at my shop, when he was going to rent a motorcycle from us.

• We share many things in common, such as: the outlook about life, how to have joy, very importantly , we both love riding motorcycles.

• There are (load of ) many activities that we both enjoy doing, from riding motorcycles as mentioned, to drinking beers and playing board games.
